KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Saturday lodged an FIR at Kokrajhar Police Station against a person named Ranjit Deka of Pathsala, a teacher of Pathsala Sikshapith Secondary School, for making and circulating a highly defamatory and communal statement on social media on the occasion of the death anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, branding him a terrorist.

The president of BJSM DD Narzary said on his 35th death anniversary, the Union Home Minister of India, Amit Shah, inaugurated a statue and a road in Bodofa’s name at Kailash Colony, New Delhi. However, on this very day, Ranjit Deka made a derogatory and inflammatory post on his Facebook account, terming Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma a “terrorist”, a “criminal bloodshed sucker” and a “communal rioter”. He also said Deka further circulated his statement widely through social media platforms. Such baseless and defamatory remarks are not only an insult to the legacy of a revered tribal leader but are also deeply hurtful to the sentiments of the tribal communities, particularly the Bodo people, he said, adding that the statement made by Ranjit Deka constitutes a gross insult and violation under sections 3(1)(r)(s)(O(u) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, promotion of enmity and hatred between communities under Section 153A of the IPC / Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and criminal defamation under Section 499 of IPC / Section 359 of BNS.

Narzary said from time to time a section of chauvinist people used to dominate and insult the Bodos, and today also this type of people are trying to sow the seed of mistrust and communal hatred by remarks. He demanded that strong action should be initiated against the teacher Deka, who defamed the Bodofa UN Brahma, and urged the police administration to take necessary legal action against Ranjit Deka as per the law to ensure justice and maintain communal harmony.
