Assam: Border area youth exchange programme held in Kokrajhar

The border area youth exchange programme, a five-day residential programme under “My India” by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kokrajhar concluded on Wednesday.

KOKRAJHAR: The border area youth exchange programme, a five-day residential programme under “My India” by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kokrajhar concluded on Wednesday. The programme witnessed the participation of youths from five states, namely, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Meghalaya. The programme, which was inaugurated by ADC, Kokrajhar Shubram Aditya Bora and District Youth Officer of NYK, Kokrajhar Himanshu Kumar.            

The main objective of this 5-day-long border area youth exchange programme was to make the youth aware of the art, culture and food habits of the state of Assam. Under this programme, sessions were addressed by the distinguished guests on various topics, among which Washim Akhtar Bari spoke about the diseases caused by drug abuse. Tarendra Nath Basumatary spoke on the Bodo culture, Debraj Paul on information on youth leadership and skill development, Dr. Hasmot Ali on the customs and rituals of the state of Assam and Dr. Shashank Shekhar Sharma took his session on the important role of youths in the development of the country. The participants were also taken to a field visit to Saralpara and to the Kokrajhar tea garden and were taught about tea plantation and processing. The team of Karanjit Brahma and Laxmi Brahma elaborated regarding the Bodo dress, Bodo gamcha, and musical instruments related to Bodo culture, and Laxmi Brahma also performed the Bagurumba dance.

On the last day of the border area youth exchange programme, all the participants were felicitated with certificates and Assamese gamocha.
