SILCHAR: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Cachar police intercepted an auto-rickshaw at the Silchar-Aizawl Bypass, recovering 30,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs. 9 crore. The consignment was reportedly being smuggled from a neighboring state.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police conducted a thorough search, leading to the seizure of the narcotics and the arrest of one individual. Authorities are now investigating further links in the trafficking network.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Assam Police for their efforts, reaffirming the state’s commitment against smuggling of drugs. The operation marks another significant step in Assam’s ongoing fight against drug smuggling.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated, "In a source based operation carried out by @cacharpolice in Silchar Aizawl Bypass, an auto rickshaw was intercepted and on thorough search 30,000 YABA tablets coming from a neighbouring State was recovered. 1 person has been apprehended . Good job @assampolice. We will continue with our mission of #Assam Against Drugs."
Meanwhile, in another operation, Dhekiajuli Police conducted a late-night raid, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of 5.77 kg of suspected ganja.
The accused, Paul Basumatary and Gidon Swargiary, were apprehended from Kaarmanguri Village under Mazbat Police Station in Udalguri District. According to police sources, the duo was found in possession of the contraband, which has been sent for further verification.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act as authorities continue their investigation to uncover further links in the drug supply chain.
