ORANG: A solemn and patriotic atmosphere prevailed in Udalguri as Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Udalguri district branch, organized a candlelight rally to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday.
The rally was held in honour of the brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War. The event commenced in the evening from the Bishnu Rabha Auditorium, where the Officer-in-Charge of Udalguri police station, Manozjal Gogoi, formally inaugurated the programme. In his address, he paid heartfelt tribute to the martyred heroes of Kargil and praised the organizers for arranging such a meaningful event that strengthened the morale of soldiers and their families alike.
Carrying candles, Indian flags, and placards bearing patriotic slogans, participants proceeded in a disciplined march towards the Shaheed Bedi (Martyrs’ Memorial) premises. Upon reaching the venue, they lit candles and offered floral tributes in front of the portraits of the fallen soldiers, paying homage to their supreme sacrifice.
The emotionally resonant programme was coordinated by Dr Milon Das, District Secretary of the Red Cross Society. It witnessed participation from Vice-Chairperson Prachurya Das, Udalguri Merchants’ Association Secretary Himangshu Das, officers and personnel from the Udalguri police department, members of ABVP, Red Cross volunteers, and numerous youth from local colleges and institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Das emphasized that such events help instil a deep sense of patriotism among citizens and highlighted the valour, dedication, and resilience of the Indian Army on a global platform. He further informed that Mera Yuva Bharat was committed to providing necessary training and support for youth who aspire to join the Indian Armed Forces.
