GUWAHATI: In a saddening incident, the forest officials in Kamrup district recovered the dead bodies of several endangered vultures lying along with many others injured.

On Thursday 17 March, nearly 100 carcasses of endangered vultures were found lifeless in the Kamrup district of Assam near the Guwahati metropolis.

The Assam forest department recovered the carcasses of the bird of prey from the Milanpur area that comes under Chaygaon police station which is in Assam's Kamrup district.

It is reported that the vultures had eaten the flesh of a goat before they died and it is suspected by officials that the cause of death was due to eating poisonous food.

Apart from the dead remains of the around hundred vultures, many more were found struggling with severe injuries.

As per the data provided by forest officials, a total of 97 vultures are confirmed as dead and a total of 12 were injured among which one is an eagle.

Meanwhile, the doctors and field authorities are trying all possible ways to cure the injured vultures by providing the required treatment as informed by the forest department through Twitter.

According to officials, bones of the goat were seen lying near the carcasses of vultures and it is very likely that the vultures might have eaten the poisonous flesh of the goat which led to their death.

But the exact cause of death is not yet known which will be confirmed after the post mortem reports of the dead birds are available.

The officials further said that the persons who have mixed poison in the body of the goat have committed a serious crime and will be summoned later.

The news came to light after the state forest department shared a tweet on their official Twitter account informing about the unfortunate incident spotted by them on Thursday.
