GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the state education board to cancel the Class XI exams following allegations of a question paper leak. This has caused serious concerns about the integrity and fairness of the examination process in the state.
It has been reported that the leaked question papers got shared on social media sites, following which prompt action was taken by authorities from the education department. The appeal by the Chief Minister is aimed at maintaining the credibility of the examination system and ensure that students are tested fairly and transparently.
Earlier, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) had postponed the remaining subjects of the Higher Secondary (HS) First Year Examination 2025, which was scheduled to be held from 24th to 29th March, due to a report of a question paper leak and protocol breach. The move came after it was found that some institutions had opened the seal of Class 11 Mathematics question papers prior to the scheduled examination time, resulting in a leak.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu confirmed the cancellation and stated that further action will be decided during a board meeting on March 24. Additionally, he said that 15 private schools from 10 districts had their affiliations suspended by ASSEB due to their involvement in the incident.
Reports say sealed packets of mathematics question papers, which were not meant to be opened until the day of the exam, were accessed by some institutions earlier on 20th March. The matter caused alarm over alleged leaks of other subject papers, triggering the board to react instantly.
