GUWAHATI: In a significant communal incident, a miscreant threw raw pork and a note into a mosque in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly condemned the incident, calling the act unacceptable and vowing strict action against those responsible.
The incident took place in the Panjabari area, at a mosque located on Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Path in Puran Basti, under the jurisdiction of Dispur Police Station. According to reports, a man arrived on a two-wheeler, wearing a blue shirt and a helmet.
CCTV footage shows him hurling the packet into the mosque premises before fleeing the scene. The packet, made of transparent plastic, contained raw pork and a handwritten note. The message, written in Assamese, read: “Miya batcha, mok pregnant korili, aitiya tohote pork kha.”
The note also included the name “Plabita Das” and a mobile number, adding to the controversy and prompting further investigation. Reacting to the incident, CM Sarma stated, “We will not allow anyone to bypass the law. The miscreants who threw pork at the mosque will be dealt with strictly.”
CM Sarma added, “We must stop this cycle of provocation.” He emphasised that such actions threaten communal harmony and have no place in a diverse society like Assam. Police have launched a formal investigation and are examining CCTV footage to trace the suspect.
