MAYONG: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lauded the Mayong Indrajal Magic Festival for its role in highlighting the mystical heritage of Morigaon district at a meeting held at the CM’s Secretariat on November 28. The festival's organizing committee requested that the event should be included as an annual event on Assam’s tourism department calendar.

In response, CM Sarma assured the committee of his full support and directed them to specify their proposal to Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah. He also encouraged the committee to meet with the minister to discuss further steps to promote the event.

The festival has gained attention for its celebration of the enigmatic allure of Mayong, a place steeped in legends of magic and mysticism. Its success has attracted a global audience, bringing renewed interest to the region.

Tourist visits to Morigaon have surged due to this festival with people coming not only for the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary but also to explore the region’s charm.

Visitors are now discovering ancient caves, medieval statues, and the Patekibori Satra, believed to be the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardev. Other highlights include river dolphin sightings, kayaking and canoeing at Charanbeel, and the picturesque beauty of the Chars by the Brahmaputra River.

This increase in tourism is expected to boost Morigaon’s local economy and position it as a key cultural and tourism destination in Assam.
