Assam CM Highlights Cultural Contributions Of Bodo Community At Bathou Mahasabha Conference

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the crucial contribution of the Bodo community in enriching the cultural heritage of the state.

TAMULPUR: In a speech at the 32nd Annual Conference of the Dularai Bathou Goutham (All Bathou Mahasabha) at Pathalikuchi, Tamulpur, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the crucial contribution of the Bodo community in enriching the cultural heritage of the state. He praised their traditional practices, religious ceremonies, and customs, which he described as integral to Assam's diverse cultural fabric.

CM Sarma recognized the All Bathou Mahasabha's impact on the Bodo community's religious and cultural identity since its establishment on May 15, 1992, by leaders Rupnath Basumatary and Baneswar Basumatary. He honored the founding members and acknowledged the organization's contributions to the community's growth.

Emphasizing the government's commitment to preserving these cultural assets, the Assam CM stated, “The acknowledgement, safeguarding, and systematic promotion of these cultural attributes constitute an immediate priority.” To this end, the Assam government has created the Department of Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture, which is focused on supporting and conserving tribal religious practices.

The Chief Minister announced financial help for 200 Bathou Thansalis during the last two years and proposed extending help to another 500 sites. He has also set aside Rs 15 crore for the building of three Bathou Thansalis and Heritage Centres at Goreswar, Chirang, and Ghoramara or Tezpur.

Additionally, plans for a Namghar at the new Assam Bhawan in New Delhi were revealed, aimed at promoting awareness of the Bathou tradition. The event was attended by notable figures, including Rajya Sabha member Rwngwra Narzary and other dignitaries.
