GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated his 56th birthday today with a small gathering of supporters, party workers, and well-wishers at his home in Guwahati. The event was attended by ministers, lawmakers, and BJP members who came to wish him and praise his leadership.

Since assuming office in 2021, CM Sarma has led several transformative initiatives in Assam. His administration’s decision to close state-run madrassas aimed at aligning education with national academic standards. Sarma has also taken a firm stance on child marriage, leading major crackdowns, arrests, and awareness campaigns to address the issue.

Under his leadership, the state's "War on Drugs" campaign has made progress, with the police seizing large amounts of drugs and stopping drug trafficking networks. His government has also taken strong steps to fight organized crime and illegal activities.

Expressing his gratitude for the flood of birthday wishes, Sarma reiterated his dedication to driving Assam’s economic growth, governance reforms, and social progress. “I am thankful to everyone for their kind wishes,” he said, underscoring his commitment to the state’s advancement.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended birthday greetings to Sarma, praising his efforts to boost Assam’s growth and empower the people of the state. "Birthday greetings to Assam CM Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji. I commend his efforts to boost Assam’s growth and empower the people of the state. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life in service of the people," PM Modi's X post stated.
