GOLAGHAT: Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Uriamghat of Sarupathar co-district on Friday. He landed at the temporary helipad at LP School Bidyapur – AOR of E/142 Bn CRPF, C Sector, Disputed Area Belt (DAB), Assam-Nagaland Border.
The visit is in continuation of the Chief Minister’s earlier tour on July 13, conducted in the aftermath of severe flooding in the Dhansiri river region. During that visit, the CM had announced that the next phase of the eviction drive would be carried out in the Uriamghat area. Following the announcement, MK Yadav, IFS, Chief Forest Officer, along with the DFO, ADC, CDC Sarupathar, and Border Magistrates from both Assam and Nagaland, visited Uriamghat to conduct a drone-assisted land survey. The survey revealed widespread encroachment and unauthorized occupation of government land, leading to the issuance of eviction notices to several villages, with a seven-day compliance deadline.
In view of the findings, a high-level coordination meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the District Commissioner, Golaghat. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Sr Superintendent of Police, Golaghat, Superintendent of Police, Wokha, Commandant, 155 Bn CRPF, Commandant, 142 Bn CRPF, and Border Magistrates of both Assam and Nagaland from Sectors C and D.
Friday’s visit by the Chief Minister focused on reviewing the preparedness and administrative coordination in anticipation of the upcoming eviction operations at Uriamghat (C Sector).
Dignitaries present during the visit were Biswajit Phukan, MLA, Sarupathar constituency, District Commissioner and Sr Superintendent of Police, Golaghat, Rinchen Wangyal Dawa, DIG, Range Khatkati, Dr Satyabvir Singh, Commandant, 155 Bn CRPF, Mohinder Kumar, Commandant, 142 Bn CRPF, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat, border magistrates, and other senior officials. Security arrangements were comprehensively managed by 142 Bn CRPF, which conducted area domination and cordon operations to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit and uphold law and order in the region.
