DHUBRI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the thermal power plant site at Chirakuta, Charuwa Bakra, Bilasipara of Dhubri district to assess its potential and plan development works on Thursday.
Assam aims for energy self-sufficiency through enhanced power generation. Setting up new thermal power plants is a step in this direction, an official said.
The 3500 bigha site, well-connected by road & rail, and close to the Gaurang river for hydro needs, is set to generate 10,000 jobs post-operation and employ 25,000 workers during construction.
Earlier last month, Director of Adani Group, visited the 3,500-bigha site for their proposed thermal power plant at Basbari under Parbatjhora Sub-division in the Kokrajhar district shortly after meeting Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The meeting between the two discussed the implementation of the Adani Group’s commitment to invest Rs 50,000 crore in Assam made during Advantage Assam 2.0.
Jeet Adani’s team too inspected two sites - one in Bilasipara of Dhubri district and other near Basbari of Kokrajhar district.
An official source in Dhubri district administration said that Adani Power Division aims to develop Assam’s largest thermal power plant to meet the growing power demands in the state.
