DIBRUGARH: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stressed the need for road safety during the ongoing festive season in a recent review meeting with senior officials that was conducted in Dibrugarh today.
The Chief Minister instructed the Excise Department to examine bar operating hours and identify days when bars are most crowded in light of the increase in traffic accidents during this period.
CM Sarma claimed that there has been no review of the schedules of certain establishments and that they are becoming a nuisance. Therefore, the Excise Department was directed to review the season's timings.
He also emphasized how urgent it is to deal with drunk driving and accidents caused by intoxication, which tend to rise during festivals.
By encouraging safer driving habits and reducing alcohol-related incidents, this initiative seeks to make the holiday season safer for everyone.
The Guwahati Transport Department and city police have increased surprise checks throughout the city to reduce drunk driving in an effort to guarantee road safety in the days leading up to Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Several bikers and four-wheelers have been fined earlier this month for breaking traffic rules, especially for drink and drive, as a result of the proactive campaign that started in major areas like GS Road.
The Transport Department intends to implement more stringent measures, such as the use of breath analyzers to identify drunk driving, in order to enhance compliance even more.
