GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan to review the recommendations made by the high-level committee, led by Justice (Retd.) Biplab Kumar Sarma, for implementing Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

The meeting, held with the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), focused on 39 out of the 40 recommendations that fall under the State Government’s responsibility.

Key topics discussed included land rights, cultural preservation, and linguistic safeguards aimed at protecting Assam's indigenous population.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has filed a criminal defamation case against Manoj Chauhan, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the party’s co-in-charge of Assam. The case was filed in the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kamrup Metro, Guwahati.

The defamation suit follows allegations made by Chauhan on February 11, during a press conference in Guwahati. Chauhan accused Dr. Sarma of investing money in shopping malls and hotel businesses in Dubai and Singapore.

In response to these allegations, the Chief Minister filed the defamation case, seeking legal action against the Congress leader for making unfounded claims. Following Dr. Sarma's petition, the court has registered the case under CR 78/2025 and issued a pre-cognisance notice to Chauhan. The court has also summoned him to appear before it on March 17.

Apart from the criminal defamation case, Dr. Sarma has decided to file a civil defamation suit against Chauhan as well. The Chief Minister has expressed his intention to seek justice for the baseless accusations made by the Congress leader.
