SILCHAR: In an apparent relief after incessant rain continued for two days since Saturday, Silchar witnessed a brighter day on Monday, though the Barak River still was running at 2.5 cm higher than the danger level of 19.83 cm. Schools, colleges, and the Assam University remained closed on Monday as the heavy pouring and waterlogging pushed the day-to-day life to a standstill. Flood victims started to move to the makeshift camp set up in at least 15 schools since Sunday.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to visit the Barak Valley on Tuesday to inspect the situation. Sarma had a telephonic discussion with Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakrabarty on Sunday late night. Meanwhile, the Cachar district administration launched a round-the-clock Flood Control Room under the Health Department to ensure immediate response and uninterrupted healthcare support in the face of mounting flood threats.

The control room, now fully functional from the Joint DHS Campus in Silchar, serves as a command hub for real-time monitoring, coordination, and rapid deployment of health resources across flood-affected areas of the district. With a dedicated helpline, 9394615401, the facility ensured open lines of communication between the public, field-level health workers, and district authorities. Operational 24x7, the control room is manned by a carefully curated team of health personnel working in three shifts, ensuring no gap in service delivery.
