GUWAHATI: As part of global outreach programs ahead of the much-awaited Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, makes a strong case for investment in the northeastern state, while on the roadshow at Seoul.

This summit is going to take place in Guwahati on February 25 and 26. It will position Assam as a new hub for economic and industrial growth, drawing much attention from investors around the globe.

Speaking to a congregation of more than 140 top investors, industrialists, and entrepreneurs in Seoul, Dr. Sarma highlighted Assam's locational, strategic, and policy-driven advantages. He elaborated on the state's pivotal role within India's growth narrative, mentioning its special dispensation by the Central Government. This preferential treatment underscores the region's importance in India's broader developmental strategy.

Dr. Sarma pointed to Assam's geographical proximity to Southeast and East Asia, which makes it a vital link under India's Act East Policy. This policy, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, envisions Assam as a springboard for strengthening economic and cultural ties with neighboring Asian nations, turning the state into a gateway for international trade.

The Chief Minister reemphasized the Indian government's forward approach towards Assam and the greater Northeastern region. This is a national commitment to utilizing the strategic importance of these regions and unleashing their huge potential. As Dr. Sarma put it, this focus has placed Assam as a "most special destination" for investors, with unmatched opportunities in infrastructure, industry, and tourism.

The roadshow held in Seoul was organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in South Korea and presented an opportunity for Assam and South Korean businesses to further connect themselves. "India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world, and therefore, the Korean investors' keen interest to invest here makes me highly enthused," he said while calling South Korean industrialists to join the summit scheduled shortly.

"Assam offers unique opportunities for South Korean businesses, especially in manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure, remarked Dr. Sarma. "The state investor-friendly policies and initiatives are tuned to foster growth in the economy while ensuring a seamless experience for international entrepreneurs," he added.

Assam has also become a tourism destination, boasting three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: its tea gardens and wildlife reserves. The Chief Minister pointed out its potential as a place for rejuvenation and relaxation, asking investors to discover opportunities for hospitality and tourism infrastructure development. He pointed out that the state's beauty aesthetics and rich cultural heritage will positively transform its share in global tourism.
