Assam: Conference of Doomdooma Senior Citizens Association to be held in May

The Biennial Conference of Senior Citizens' Association (SCA), Doomdooma is set to be held in the middle of May.

DOOMDOOMA: The Biennial Conference of Senior Citizens' Association (SCA), Doomdooma is set to be held in the middle of May. A decision to this effect was taken in an extended executive committee meeting held at Doomdooma Satodal Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSSXX) Bhaban on Saturday.

In the meeting presided over by President Gobinda Phookan, Secretary Prakash Narayan Patowari explained the aim of the meeting and read out the proceedings of the last three meetings of SCA along with a statement of receipt and expenditures, which was duly passed by the house.

 For holding of biennial conference, the duration of the committee was extended by another two months. After a threadbare discussion, it was resolved to hold the conference on May 17. For that, a five-member preparatory committee was formed comprising President Gobinda Phookan, Working President Lalit Gogoi, Secretary Prakash Narayan Patowari, and executive members Arjun Baruah and Dharmeswar Bora.

The meeting warmly welcomed the proposal of Doomdooma Press Club (DPC) to hold an intimate conversation programme and a health check-up camp for the members of SCA, Doomdooma and for that the meeting entrusted the preparatory committee to chalk out the programme in detail after thorough discussion with Press Club office bearers.

 In the beginning, one-minute silence was observed in memory of those distinguished personalities and senior citizens who passed away recently. The meeting was addressed by Nandeswar Kalita, a former tea executive, teacher and sports organizer. On the other hand, Arjun Baruah, Dhiren Deka, and Prafulla Mahanta took part in the proceedings of the meeting and put forward various suggestions on the issue of identity card and other matters. The meeting came to an end after a vote of thanks offered by the Secretary Prakash Narayan Patowari.
