Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi today expressed unhappiness over the lack of clarity on the part of the government regarding ‘serious failures’ in ONGC’s response to the gas blowout at Rudrasagar in Assam’s Sivasagar district on June 12, 2025. Gogoi tweeted that he raised the issue in the Parliament today.

Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi had raised a question in the Lok Sabha regarding the gas leak incident. In response to their question, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri had provided a reply.

On his official handle on X, Gogoi posted, “Today in Parliament, I raised the issue of the ONGC gas blowout at Rudrasagar in Assam, which occurred on 12 June 2025. ONGC’s response has exposed serious failures, from ineffective emergency control to the forced evacuation of hundreds of residents. Yet the government has provided no clarity on these lapses or on accountability. Key questions remain unanswered regarding third-party vendor responsibility, gaps in disaster preparedness, declining maintenance in ageing fields, and the absence of independent oversight in the Northeast. I will be writing to the Ministry to seek clear answers, structural reform, and long-term safeguards for the people and environment of Assam.”
