Assam: Conservationist rescued rhesus macaque monkey in Dhekiajuli

In a commendable wildlife rescue operation, Sanjay Baruah, president of the environmental conservation organization Seuj Society, successfully rescued a Rhesus Macaque monkey on Saturday.

DHEKIAJULI: In a commendable wildlife rescue operation, Sanjay Baruah, president of the environmental conservation organization Seuj Society, successfully rescued a Rhesus Macaque monkey on Saturday. The species, protected under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, was found injured and trapped inside the ceiling of a residence in Ward No. 1 of Junglebasti, Dhekiajuli.

According to reports, the monkey had been stuck in the ceiling of advocate Ananda Sahani’s house for several days, seemingly injured and unable to escape. Upon discovering the situation, Sahani immediately informed Sanjay Baruah, who immediately arrived at the location to assess and undertake the rescue.

The operation proved to be quite challenging, as the monkey had lodged itself deep within the ceiling structure. However, with determination and careful handling, Baruah managed to retrieve the distressed animal safely. The rescue effort was further reinforced by officials from the Dhekiajuli Forest Department, who arrived on-site and provided additional support.

Following its successful rescue, the injured monkey was promptly handed over to the Dhekiajuli forest officials, who arranged for its transportation to a veterinary hospital for necessary medical attention.

This incident highlights the crucial role played by conservationists like Sanjay Baruah and organizations like Seuj Society in protecting and preserving wildlife. It also underscores the importance of prompt action by concerned citizens in ensuring the safety and well-being of protected species.

Wildlife officials have urged people to report such incidents immediately to ensure timely intervention and the protection of endangered and vulnerable species.
