Assam: DBHA felicitates ‘Nileswar Brahma Award’ winner Gunobati Basumatary

The Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) felicitated and honoured renowned Cine artiste and well-known singer Gunobati Basumatary (Dangkhwl Lwdw) with traditional Aronai at her residence in Dotma today.

KOKRAJHAR: The Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) felicitated and honoured renowned Cine artiste and well-known singer Gunobati Basumatary (Dangkhwl Lwdw) with traditional Aronai at her residence in Dotma today. The UPPL-led government of BTR, at its 4-years completion ceremony held at Bhergaon in Udalguri on Sunday, conferred the “Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Award, 2024” to Gunobati Basumatary for her outstanding contributions in the field of Bodo culture and cinema. The award carries citation, memento and Rs 2 lakhs.

The general secretary of DBHA Bijitgiri Basumatary, advisor Jogeswr Brahma, president of Kokrajhar district DBHA Swmdwn Wary, secretary of Bodoland Cultural Centre, Ramfalbil Barlangfa Narzary, and leaders of Dotma Anchalik Committee, DBHA felicitated Basumatary.

Born on January 19, 1963 at Baoti village in Kokrajhar, she is very popular for folk songs and has sung many songs. She debuted with “Rongjali” audio cassette and acted for the first time in “Boba” film. She has also played an active role in drama and one act plays since 1974 and took roles in theatre under Rongjali Afat of Dotma.

In an interview with The Sentinel, artiste and singer Gonobati Basumatary said that she heard about her name being selected for Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Award, 2024, conferred by the government of BTR on the occasion of celebration of 4 years of the current council government. The award was given away by the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro. Basumatary said that she could not immediately believe the news. She also said that hard work and dedication bear fruits for everyone and this award is an example. She further said that the award in the name of Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma, the genius of Bodo culture, was quite an encouraging and laudable initiative to inspire the singers and artistes.
