BARPETA: A massive fire erupted in Habidangra village, located in Baghbar in Assam's Barpeta district on Monday night, resulting in the complete destruction of a house owned by Javed Ali. Fortunately, there were no reported human casualties; however, the blaze claimed the lives of at least five livestock.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the fire was suspected to have originated from the kitchen of the house. The call to firefighters was made almost immediately, but since the town was fairly remote, access was quite difficult. However, with much effort, the fire crew managed to gain control over the fire.

The incident caused massive damage, with property losses running into lakhs. The family has suffered severe hardship as a result of the destruction of their house and livestock. Local authorities are conducting further investigations to ascertain the precise cause of the fire and to evaluate the extent of the damage.

Days ago, a fire broke out in Ward No. 6 of Barthaal Kachari Gaon, Moirabari, Assam, on February 8, tragically claiming the life of 22-year-old Moinul Haque, who was unable to escape due to a disability.

The fire, suspected to have been caught from some wooden construction, spread rapidly with several more injured and two houses completely razed to the ground with damages running into over Rs 10 lakh. Moinul's body was sent for postmortem to Morigaon Civil Hospital. The reason is under investigation.
