PATHSALA: Devotees and local residents in Bajali have raised concerns over the sale of meat near the Shiva Temple in the daily market of Pathsala Town, urging authorities to relocate the vendors to a different area. Many feel that having meat shops in close proximity to the temple goes against religious sentiments and affects the sanctity of the place and that for worshippers visiting the temple, the presence of meat stalls nearby is deeply unsettling.

“We respect all kinds of businesses, but certain sensitivities must be taken into account. A Shiva Temple is a sacred space, and selling meat so close to it just doesn’t feel right,” said a devotee. “The smell from the meat shops makes it uncomfortable for devotees who come here to pray. It affects the spiritual atmosphere of the temple. They also store waste products in front of the temple,” said a regular visitor.

Locals of the area urged authorities to impose restrictions on meat sales around the temple premises. Some have suggested designating a separate section in the market for meat vendors so that both religious beliefs and business interests can be respected. So far, the authorities have not issued an official response, but discussions are expected soon on how best to address the concerns of the devotees while balancing the needs of the market vendors.
