Assam: Dhubri Police Arrest Teer Agent in Crackdown on Illegal Gambling

Dhubri police arrested Samarjit Saha, a teer agent, and seized gambling materials, cash, and a mobile phone in a bid to curb illegal gambling.

DHUBRI: In a decisive crackdown on illegal gambling, Dhubri police arrested a teer agent near Dhubri Girls' College on Tuesday afternoon. The accused, Samarjit Saha, a resident of Ward No. 6, Chatiantola, was apprehended at a pan shop where he was allegedly conducting gambling activities.

In response to a concerned citizen, authorities uncovered five teer ticket books, a Realme mobile phone assumed to have been utilized for communication with clients, and cash amounting to Rs 2635 suspected to have been earned from the illegal racket. In order to curb the rising menace of illegal gambling activities in the region, legal contraventions have been initiated under the relevant sections.

“Illegal gambling has far-reaching negativity on any society, and it is something we must eradicate,” said Sub - Inspector Jyotirmoy Das, Dhubri Sadar Police Station while reiterating the strong commitment of the respective administration towards maintenance of law and order.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, a police team led by Azara ACP, along with the OC of Fatasil Ambari Police Station, arrested five individuals suspected of being involved in an illegal gambling operation in GMC Colony, Guwahati. The operation was conducted based on confidential information, and the suspects were found to have been actively involved in the “Teer” betting racket.

The arrested suspects were identified as Bikash Kr Sah (24), a resident of GMC Colony in Fatasil Ambari; Nirupam Mazumdar (40), a resident of Pahartoli, Kalapahar; Madhab Acharya (51) from Era Suti Jungle in Thelamara, Sonitpur; Md. Kuddus Ali (31), a resident of Machkhowa, Bharalumukh; and Md. Kuddus Ali (19), a resident of Dhirenpara Tilla, Fatasil Ambari.
