DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh District Administration today carried out an eviction drive from Kacharighat to Mallypatty near Brahmaputra river bank and at least 40 illegal huts were demolished with JCB in the drive. For the last several years, people have illegally occupied the area near Brahmaputra River and have lived there without any fear.

Speaking to reporters, Dibrugarh ASP (HQ) Nirmal Ghosh said, “We received complaints from people that illegal activities are going on in this area. We have carried out an eviction drive and dismantled 40 huts illegally encroached near the Brahmaputra River.”

“Our eviction drive will continue and in the coming days, we will evict everyone who has illegally occupied government land,” Ghosh said.

“Illegal activities happened here but nobody is bothered about the issue. Earlier, the Dibrugarh Administration evicted them from this place due to erosion but they again set up huts there. The eviction drive should be continued to evict them permanently from this place,” said a local resident.
