DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) has formed a special team of people from civilians, naming it as the “DMC Enforcement Squad, to monitor encroachment of the footpaths and unauthorised roadside shops, etc.
Initially, the team consists of five men and four women who will closely monitor the illegal encroachment.
Recently, DMC has been conducting eviction drives to clear unauthorised shops that are mushrooming on the footpaths and roads in Dibrugarh town.
“We appreciate the steps taken by DMC to monitor the illegal footpath and roadside encroachment illegally by certain vendors. In the New Market area, the footpaths were encroached upon by the vendors, which is meant for pedestrians,” said Rakesh Talukdar, a resident of Dibrugarh town.
DMC Mayor Dr. Saikat Patra said, “We have started an eviction drive to clear all roads and footpaths that are illegally occupied by vendors and some people. Most of the roads of Dibrugarh are narrow due to the illegal encroachment, which causes inconvenience to the public to pass the roads.”
