DIBRUGARH: As Christians across the world solemnly observed Good Friday today, Dibrugarh also witnessed the commemoration of the Passion of Jesus Christ with deep devotion and reverence in different churches.
In Christ Church, a special prayer service was held to mark the occasion, led by the Presbyter-in-Charge, Rev Noeldeep Swargowari. The service began at 12 noon and continued until 3 PM, symbolizing the hours during which Jesus suffered and died on the cross. The congregation engaged in reflective sermons, scripture readings, and heartfelt prayers, all centered on the suffering, crucifixion, and ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the redemption of humanity.
In the evening, the Kuki Worship Service (KWS), comprising members of the Kuki community in Dibrugarh, also held their Good Friday service with solemn devotion. Dr L Doungel, Chairman of the KWS, and Joseph Thangnew, the Chaplain, led the worship service.
Thanksgiving and special prayers were offered for peace and harmony in the state, the nation, and across the world. The congregation also prayed fervently for the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state, seeking divine guidance and wisdom.
Throughout the day, the church remained a space of silence, reflection, and spiritual meditation. Hymns and meditative songs enriched the atmosphere, deepening the sense of reverence and solemnity. A large number of church members and well-wishers attended the services, making it a spiritually enriching experience for all. The observance served as a moment of collective reflection, repentance, and gratitude for the immeasurable love and sacrifice of Christ.
On the other hand, ‘Way of the Cross’ and veneration of the Cross was organized at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in Dibrugarh on the occasion of Good Friday. The stations of the ‘Way of the Cross’ were enacted by youths of Dibrugarh and Chaulkhowa in presence of thousands of believers.
