Assam: Dibrugarh University and ICFRE-Rain Forest Research Institute Forge Partnership for Sustainable Development in Northeast India

Dibrugarh University and ICFRE-Rain Forest Research Institute signed an MoU to collaborate on sustainable resource management, climate change, and community development in Northeast India.

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh University and the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education's Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU was finalised on Thursday in a ceremony held at Dibrugarh University. The two institutions have agreed to collaborate on joint research in sustainable natural resource management, value addition, and community development in Northeast India.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Professor Jiten Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, by Dr. Prasanta Kumar Kakoty, Registrar-in-charge of Dibrugarh University, and Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, Director of ICFRE-RFRI, with the purpose of furthering cooperation in matters concerning these key issues such as climate change, plant technology, and sustainable forestry practices critical for the region's ecological and economic future.

These initiatives will be in the form of collaborative research, training, forest resource conservations, and capacity-building activities. This will certainly support the regional sustainable livelihoods while helping science flourish.

The faculty members from Dibrugarh University were also at the meeting; including Prof Bibhuti Bhusan Kakoty, Prof Deepsikha Bora, and Prof Dipak Chetia who emphasized on research-driven growth and academic excellence.

An important step towards advancing sustainable development in Northeast India is the collaboration between Dibrugarh University and the ICFRE-Rain Forest Research Institute, which brings together knowledge to solve environmental issues and enhance the standard of living for local populations.
