DIGBOI: Digboi BJP legislator Suren Phukan on Thursday afternoon, on his social media handle, repudiated the allegations involving the breach of election Model Code of Conduct (MCC) here at Ward 7 in Digboi’s Santipur village under Borhapjan Panchayat in Tinsukia district.
Phukan categorically denied the charges levelled by one of the rival candidates in the poll fray who alleged that Phukan was campaigning in the area despite the official cessation of scheduled campaigning date.
Clarifying his stand, Phukan said that he had been visiting various villages of the constituency to felicitate the meritorious students for their bright academic performance in the recently declared Higher Secondary final examination.
According to Phukan, one of the contesting ward members, Junmoni Moran, who was earlier a BJP worker, humiliated him in public with abusive words. “She falsely ran the propaganda accusing me of campaigning in the village which forced me to abort my attempt of visiting the students,” said the legislator. On the other hand, Junmoni Moran, the aspiring ward member, accused Phukan of violating the Model Code of Conduct and urged the competent authority to initiate steps against him.
