SIVASAGAR: A district-level convergence meeting was held on Thursday at the Sukafa Conference Hall, Office of the District Commissioner, Sivasagar, with the objective of strengthening gender, health and nutrition initiatives under the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM). The meeting, aimed at fostering enhanced inter-departmental collaboration for the holistic development of women and children in the district, was chaired by the Additional District Commissioner of Sivasagar
The meeting was attended by senior officials and representatives from key departments such as Police, Zilla Parishad, Health, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development (WCD), Education, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), NRLM, and other stakeholders. Discussions were held on integrated approaches to address gender inequality, improve maternal and child health, and bolster nutritional outcomes through grassroots-level initiatives such as Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Village Organizations (VOs), Cluster Level Federations (CLFs), Nari Xurokya Kokh (NXK), and Gender Resource Centres (GRCs).
Participants highlighted the pivotal role of SHGs and community cadres in raising awareness and providing localized support. Key strategies discussed included enhancing behavioural change communication, expanding outreach to marginalized communities, and strengthening service delivery mechanisms through coordinated departmental action.
The District Project Manager of ASRLM, Sivasagar, outlined current activities and achievements under the convergence framework. A PowerPoint presentation by the District Functional Expert (SMIBCB), ASRLM, further elaborated on programme objectives, ongoing interventions, best practices, and the roadmap ahead, emphasizing the importance of sustained cross-sectoral collaboration.
A resolution was passed in the meeting to reinforce coordination platforms at the block and village levels, ensure regular review and monitoring, and deepen community participation in development planning. All departments pledged to intensify convergence efforts to ensure that government schemes and services reach women and children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks offered by the Chairperson, reiterating the significance of convergence, timely implementation, and strict adherence to guidelines in driving sustainable and inclusive development across Sivasagar.
