BARPETA: ‘Aaji Range Range Ekakar/ Aaha Bhaai Khelo Holi Mili Sabe Prane pran,’ Evergreen Doul Festival of Barpeta Satra, established by Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev, ended today with the Xuweri Utsava. This time, the Doul Festival was for four days, of which today was the last day.

On the second day of ‘Bhar doul’ at night, Mahaprabhu ‘Doul Govinda’ was taken out from the ‘Doul Griha’ and kept at ‘Jogmohan Griha.’ And today, after the regular ‘Prasanga’ (morning prayer), in the evening, both ‘Gosain’ Mahaprabhu are kept on two beautiful dolas for ornamenting at ‘Mothor Chotal’ (in front of the residence of Mahapurush Madhabdeva) and afterwards both mahaprabhus were taken to ‘Kalbari’ (Ganakkuchi) to have ‘Heketa’ (a kind of grain) with ‘Gayan-Bayan’ and the devotees sang holigeets which echoed all over the place.

On the other hand, from Baradi satra also, the idol of ‘Ghunusa’ was brought and taken to Kalbari. The Barpetians sang holigeets which enthralled their hearts with the devotion of Lord Krishna. After the ritual of ‘Heketa Khowa’ at Kalbari, Gosain and Ghunusa were brought to Barpeta satra whereas there was the ritual of ‘Breaking bamboos.’ It was held at ‘Tupar Chotal’ in front of ‘Dalan’ (main entrance). All the devotees of 22 hatis of Barpeta took part in this bamboo breaking ritual. And thereafter, both Gosain Mahaprabhus were taken around the main ‘kirtan ghor’ (main prayer hall) seven times. During that time at Mothor Chotal, there was another programme ‘bol boloni’ whereas there was a debate between the devotees of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Krishna. The devotees of Goddess Lakshmi did not allow Lord Krishna to enter inside the Kirtan Ghor as Lord Krishna returned from the house of Ghunusa. So Goddess Lakshmi got offended. At last, Lord Krishna was allowed to enter the Kirtan Ghor.

After the seven rounds around the Kirtan Ghor, the Big Drum (Doba kubuwa) was beaten and thus ended the famous Doul Festival of Barpeta satra. Thousands of devotees throng Barpeta during these days of the festival. Many tourists from outside the state and country came to witness the world famous Doul Festival of Barpeta.
