GUWHATAI: The police acted on a tip-off to raid Khanapara, and in the process, they arrested a suspected peddler and seized a large amount of suspected heroin and other incriminating materials.
During the operation, police officials arrested the suspect and recovered three tobacco boxes holding suspected heroin that weighed a total of 24.7 grams. They also recovered 21 empty vials, a cell phone, Rs 130 cash, and a Pulsar motorcycle with registration number AS 17M 5494.
The arrested person has been named as Abdul Kader (25 years), son of Md. Basir Uddin, of Sawkuchi, Joy Ram Medhi Path, under Basistha Police Station in Kamrup (M) district. His permanent address is given as Vedlo (Udarshor) village in Dhubri district.
The authorities are probing further to see if there are any possible connections to broader drug networks working in the state. The success of the raid reflects the efforts of law enforcers in stemming the vice of drug dealing in Assam.
Earlier, Guwahati Police cracked down on illegal activities across the city. A team from Odalbakra OP under Dispur police station raided a gathering at Beltoli Pahar, seizing around 50 liters of country-made liquor.
Meanwhile, a team from Bharalumukh PS arrested Jahanra Begam (48) from Chayygaon in connection with the theft of an old X-ray machine part from Swagat Hospital, Santipur. The stolen property was recovered from her scrap yard in Bhotnath. In another separate operation, a team from Basistha PS apprehended three alleged drug peddlers – Rakibuddun Ali (25) from Hajo, Santosh Gogoi (21) from Khanapara, and Raju Deka (34) from Sarthebari-during a raid in Khanapara. The police recovered 45.71 grams of heroin, 44 empty vials, and a mobile phone from their possession. Legal proceedings have been initiated in all cases.
