BOKO: Unauthorised brick kilns are alarmingly increasing in Boko, Assam, especially in the Haribhanga district. There are hundreds of these Bengali-style kilns that have been operating without the required permits or government supervision.

The hazards that these establishments pose to the environment and public health have drawn criticism from the local population. Surprisingly, neither the Kamrup district government nor the Assam Pollution Control Board have taken any action to address these violations, which raises questions regarding regulatory accountability.

Areas like Hekara, Silobari, Tarabari, Damalchowch, Balizhar, Ghilibari, and Nalapara have also seen an increase in these illicit brick kilns. Concerns about air pollution and safety risks are heightened by the fact that many of these kilns are situated close to schools, major thoroughfares, and areas with a high population density.

Residents are concerned about the long-term effects on their health and the environment because no action has been taken to stop the operations despite the obvious infractions of environmental standards. The problem has only gotten worse due to regulatory organisations' inactivity, necessitating quick action.
