DHUBRI: A disturbing case has been exposed in Gauripur in the Dhubri District involving a fake doctor who managed to deceive the local villagers and made a fortune, with several worth lakhs of rupees.
Unfortunately, it was the residents of Baniya Bari that fell for this scam, and Mahar Ali from Barpeta, which is a state in India, was where the scam evidently got the ball rolling. As an imposter of a medical professional, Mahar Ali upped his prices from 6000 rupees to 10000 rupees based on prison and even went as far as to claim he could treat numerous ailments. The villagers were obviously willing to give anything as they did not understand many of the medical procedures.
The fake doctor was only able to work once a week and made sure to not fall behind on sales by hiring brokers to deal with the patients for him. With that being said, the villagers sought medical help and managed to place all of their trust in this fraudster.
What truly highlights the lack of news surrounding this operation is the fact that Pakistani police made a single raid on the operation and managed to uncover this entire scam along with arresting Mahar Ali and two other accomplices.
Families in that area have come forward claiming that they were scammed by this ring, and authorities are actively trying to find out just how extensive and large this scam was.
Residents have commented on this, saying that more needs to be done in order to make sure this does not happen again in the future despite praising the arrests made.
A nearby resident remarked, “The villagers trusted him blindly, not realizing they were being conned. It’s a wake-up call for everyone to verify medical credentials before seeking treatment.
The police have appealed to citizens to report any similar fraudulent activities and assured them that strict action will be taken against those exploiting vulnerable communities.
