NAGAON: ‘A doll made up of clay,’ a film directed by Kokob Gebrehaweria Tesfay and produced by Sahil Ingle, has been selected for La Cinef at Cannes Film Festival 2025. This film is among the 16 entries to be featured this year. A zero budget project of SRFTI under the Producing Department, the aim of it was to make a film with no financial resources.
Tesfay, hailing from Ethiopia, takes inspiration from storytelling traditions passed down by his grandfather. The basic theme of the film ‘A doll made up of clay’ follows Oluwaseyi, a young Nigerian footballer, who after selling his father’s land to chase a football career in India, suffers a devastating injury that ends his dreams. The music for this film is done by Nagaon-based music composer Himangshu Saikia. While speaking to this correspondent here, Himangshu said that it was fun working on this project.
“It was exciting because I was working with a genre that I’ve always wanted to try out but never got the chance,” Himangshu said, adding that at first, it did confuse him a bit as to how the approach should be made. “But as I started working, the composition became fuller and went hand in hand with the film and the team loved it and finally accepted it,” he added.
The technical team includes Vinod Kumar (DOP), Mahmud Abu Naser (Editing) and Soham Pal (Sound Recording and Design). The 78th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 13 to 24.
