A CORRESPONDENT
SILCHAR: A group of students from the Department of Social Work at Assam University filed a complaint against Ajit Kumar Jena, Assistant Professor, alleging sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, defamation, and mental harassment. The FIR, submitted to the Assam University Police Outpost on May 4, accused Professor Jena of repeated misconduct and abuse of power. Pradosh Kiran Nath, the Registrar of the University, told this correspondent that the Vice-Chancellor had asked the department to conduct an internal investigation and submit a report which was expected to be tabled on Monday.
According to the complaint, Professor Jena used his authority during academic meetings to manipulate, threaten, and make sexually explicit and defamatory remarks about students and faculty members. The students allege that he forced them to meet in isolated locations such as restaurants and cabins at odd hours and used sexually abusive language during these encounters.
