GORESWAR: A meeting on flood preparedness was held on Tuesday in the conference hall of the commissioner’s office under the chairmanship of Pankaj Chakravarty, the District Commissioner of Tamulpur district as well as the chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority.

The District Commissioner urged all concerned departments to remain vigilant to ensure that there is no loss of life or property and that the general public does not face any difficulties during the upcoming monsoon season.

He also mentioned that, since the upcoming period coincides with elections, managing the flood situation may be more challenging this year. He emphasized the need to minimize the use of educational institutions as relief camps. Additionally, he raised an important point that no individual or organization will be allowed to distribute relief materials to flood victims without prior approval from the administration. This decision aims to protect people from potential food poisoning incidents.

The district is frequently affected by floods due to nearly ten rivers, including the Borolia, Pagladiya, Puthimari, Kalanadi, and Motonga.

Notably, in the previous year, 116 villages in the district were affected by floods, including 42 villages in the Tamulpur Assembly Constituency and 74 villages in the Goreswar Assembly Constituency.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Commissioners, heads of various departments, police, paramilitary forces, and SDRF personnel.
