BONGAIGAON: Residents of Bongaigaon district donated relief materials worth over Rs 21 lakh for flood victims in Jorhat, Sivasagar, and Charaideo following a joint appeal by the All Bongaigaon District Students’ Union (AASU) and the Greater Bongaigaon Press Club.
The relief drive, held from July 26 to 28, collected rice, sanitary pads, biscuits, clothes, bottled water, medicines, and other essential items through collection centres across the district.
On July 29, a team led by Konkon Bayan, General Secretary of the All Bongaigaon District Students’ Union, and Dharam Ranjan Roy, General Secretary of the Greater Bongaigaon Press Club, transported the materials to the flood-hit districts using two dumpers, two trucks, and four Bolero pickup vehicles. The team stayed for three days to distribute the relief. In Sivasagar, Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, Chief Adviser of AASU, joined the team and thanked the people of Bongaigaon. In Jorhat, AASU Literary Secretary Niharika Saikia also expressed gratitude for the district’s generous support.
