Assam Floods: Flood Situation in Jorhat Still Grim

JORHAT: The flood situation in Jorhat district continues to be grim again towards the areas of the north-western part of Jorhat city where during the second wave a total of six villages comprising of 60 families with 175 population were affected by the third wave of flood from the Bhogdoi as water entered this village through a repaired embankment portion which was not properly amended by the Water Resource Department which locals heavily alleged that has led to the continuation of flowing water from the river Bhogdoi to enter into the villages of Randhonijaan, Maloakhat, Maloapam, Maloapatar, Borguree, Roumaree, Guwaljaan, Bhokta Gaon, Choladhora, Gogoi Gaon, Rongagora etc. where people still taking shelter at six relief camps and along the areas beside the PWD Road and Bhogdoi embankment, said sources from the district administration today.

Various organizations, both national and State, rushed to the affected areas and distributed various essential commodities, including medicines, to the flood-affected people. The government distributed relief materials for three consecutive days during the first wave but at present no such relief or precautionary measure from the administration has been reported,” said Ashok Bayan, a flood-affected person.
