Similarly, the anti-smuggling unit of the Guwahati customs division last year, in July, seized foreign cigarettes worth over Rs 30 lakhs that arrived from Silchar via courier service. The consignment arrived at a courier service facility in Boragaon around midnight, as per reports.

Raunak Sangma, inspector of the anti-smuggling unit, said there were 1,07,200 pieces of foreign cigarette sticks concealed in household items.

"We seized these products based on specific intel. These cigarettes were concealed inside two rusted almirahs, one damaged washing machine, damaged refrigerators, and two plastic buckets. Cartons and thermocol were used to pack the items tightly," the officer said.
