BOKAKHAT: Former Bokakhat MLA Jiten Gogoi, who had previously severed ties with the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), has now returned to the party. The rejoining was facilitated by Ridheep Bhushan Nath, Secretary of the party’s youth wing, Central Yuba Shakti Assam, and Jiten Gogoi’s brother, Bew Gogoi, who is also the President of AJP’s Bokakhat regional committee.
Ridheep Bhushan Nath issued a formal notice welcoming back Jiten Gogoi, who had earlier left the party after the Panchayat election results. The Assam Jatiya Parishad has since clarified its stance on Gogoi’s return. Workers from the Bokakhat unit of the Parishad, along with the women’s and youth wings, stated that Gogoi’s departure had not harmed the party.
Just a year ago, Jiten Gogoi had joined the AJP under the leadership of Lurinjyoti Gogoi and aspired to win from Bokakhat. However, after being disheartened by the people's mandate in the Panchayat election, he distanced himself from the party. Now, Gogoi has symbolically rejoined by hoisting a large party flag at the new AJP office located within the premises of the Nirman Group office led by him.
Bokakhat AJP officials expressed dissatisfaction with Gogoi’s earlier claims that the party had no stronghold in the region or that its offices were non-functional. They believe that Gogoi unfairly blamed the party for his personal shortcomings. They pointed out that AJP is a new party, and expecting immediate electoral success is unrealistic. Instead, Gogoi should have focused on strengthening the party, they said.
As a two-time MLA, Gogoi should have used his prior experience to contribute to AJP’s growth, they added. His decision to leave the party simply because of a defeat in the Panchayat election was deemed unfortunate and condemnable. Party leaders further stated in a press conference that although AJP did not win in the recent Panchayat election, it showed remarkable progress and potential in the Bokakhat area. They asserted that any attempt to divert nationalist ideals for personal gain would not succeed.
