Assam: Goalpara Honours 42 Gaon Panchayats for Achieving TB-Free Status

Goalpara district administration and health society have been striving for a TB-free district with notable success in recent years.

Goalpara: With a view to creating a Tuberculosis (TB) free district, the Goalpara district administration as well as the district health society have been working relentlessly for the last several years and have gained success too.

On Wednesday, forty-two Gaon Panchayat (GP)s of the district who have successfully eliminated TB from their respective GP’s were recognized and awarded by the administration.

At a function arranged in this regard at the DC’s conference hall, Khanindra Choudhury, DC, in the presence of frontline social workers Sailen Das and Nani Das, Dr Jonbir Das, joint director of health services, and Dr Abdus Salam, district TB control officer, awarded the GPs. The “TB Mukt Panchayat” initiative was launched by the Indian government in March 2023, which aims to make every GP tuberculosis-free by empowering local communities and strengthening community engagement in TB elimination efforts.
