GUWAHATI: The Assam government has introduced a new teacher transfer policy, enabling educators to apply for inter-district transfers via an online portal. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced the initiative during a press conference held at the Samagra Shiksha office.

Previously, teachers were restricted from taking transfers between districts as per their initial appointment agreements. However, the new policy allows eligible teachers to submit transfer applications, with the portal set to reopen tomorrow and remain open until April 30.

According to the new rules, teachers with at least 10 years of service are eligible to apply for transfer. Also, differently-abled teachers can apply after serving for two years. The education department is planning to complete the transfer process during summer holidays so that it can be a smooth process for everyone.

Minister Pegu encouraged all current teachers to log into their profiles and reapply, while newly appointed teachers must create their profiles before submitting transfer requests.

This step is likely to benefit teachers looking to get transferred for reasons of a personal or professional nature, thus making the education system in Assam more efficient and better working conditions for teachers in general. The government hopes to create a more flexible and responsive schooling environment through this new policy.
