DIBRUGARH: In a major step toward decentralizing governance in Assam, the land for the proposed Assam Legislative Assembly building and MLA residential complex has been officially finalized at Khanikar in Dibrugarh.
The ambitious project is set to be completed by mid-2027, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development efforts.
During his recent visit to the project site, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the progress and issued directives to ensure the inclusion of all necessary modern facilities in the upcoming assembly complex. The initiative aims to transform Dibrugarh into Assam’s second capital, bringing administrative activities closer to Upper Assam.
The project also includes the construction of a circuit house with 75 rooms for government officials adjacent to the assembly building. This move is expected to enhance administrative accessibility and ease of governance in the region.
Once operational, two Assam Assembly sessions will be held annually in Dibrugarh, boosting not only governance but also economic activities in the area. The project also aligns with the government’s broader vision to address critical local issues such as artificial floods and promote balanced regional development.
This significant development is considered a transformative moment for Upper Assam, potentially opening up new opportunities for growth and advancement.
