'Assam Govt Has Worked Towards Securing Interests of Indigenous People', Says CM Sarma

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday asserted that his government has worked towards securing the interests of indigenous people in the past 1 year.

He was speaking during a function marking the completion of the anniversary of his government.

''In the past 1 year, we worked towards securing the interests of indigenous people, cracked down hard on crime & ensured social security through welfare schemes. We will hand over appointment letters to 25,000 youth on May 14,'' he said.

''Our mantra is minimum government & maximum governance,'' he added.

He further said that the state government would work for safeguarding the rights of every indigenous person in the state.

The Assam CM also announced that his government would add six lakh more beneficiaries under the Orunodoi scheme within the next one year.

''As we today complete one year of the government, I am proudly announcing that the state government will add another six lakh beneficiaries under the scheme soon and the grant of Rs 1000 will be hiked to Rs. 1250 from August 15 next," he added.

Further while speaking about the achievements of the state government, Sarma said, ''Development has picked up pace. We are pulling out all stops to ensure that the wave of all-around growth sweeps across Assam.''

''Government has managed to check drugs smuggling, cattle smuggling, rhino poaching and improve the law and order situation of the state to a great extend,'' he said.

While acknowledging people's support, Sarma promised that his government shall leave no stone unturned to accelerate growth and transform Assam into a State of indigenous people's dreams.

''The love & blessings of our people have constantly motivated us to work for a peaceful & prosperous Assam,'' he added.

While commenting on the other works done by the government within a period of one year, Sarma informed that Drugs worth Rs 550 crore were seized in the last one year.

''Apart from providing land rights to lakhs of people under Mission Basundhara, we have also freed the land from the clutches of illegal encroachers in Garukhuti, Lumding, Lahorighat, and other areas,'' he added.

He also said that around 11 lakh women were given relief from microfinance debts and we have targeted to give relief to another 14 lakh women from the loans next year.

Speaking on digital services, Sarma said that it has helped in reducing the gap between public and governance in employment registration, driving license issuance, and other areas.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah too congratulated Sarma for his service and asserted that Assam would soon become the prime hub for entire southeast Asia during BJP's term.
