GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet has unveiled a series of initiatives to honor the birth centenary of former Chief Minister Golap Borbora. The state government will officially commemorate his 100th birth anniversary on August 29, 2025, with a grand state function, paying tribute to his legacy through various events.

In recognition of his contributions to Assam’s political and social sphere, a state-level institution will be named in his honor. To ensure a fitting year-long celebration, a Cabinet sub-committee has been established to oversee the planning and execution of various programs leading up to the centenary.

"In the recent #AssamCabinet meeting chaired by Dr. @himantabiswa, a significant decision was taken to honor the legacy of former CM Late Golap Borbora: a birth centenary celebration on 29th August 2025 as a state function, a state-level institution to be named after him, and a cabinet sub-committee formed for year-long celebrations," stated a post by CMO Assam on X.

Earlier in February marked the daylong birth centenary celebration of Nidhi Ram Saharia, a renowned yet unsung freedom fighter and social reformer affectionately known as Nidhi Volunteer.

The event, held at Chapai Yuba Kalyan Kendra near Mangaldai, transformed into a heartwarming reunion of family members of freedom fighters. The celebration was jointly organized by the Darrang District Freedom Fighters Association (DDFFA) and Nidhi Volunteer’s family members.
