Mangaldai: The Dakshin Barsajai Maidaam Durga Mandir Trust, based in Guwahati, Assam, has once again set an inspiring example of social responsibility and compassion. This unique religious organization, widely respected across Assam and the Northeast, has consistently garnered appreciation from all sections of society for its regular philanthropic activities.
The trust is known for providing periodic financial assistance to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, various charitable organizations, and individuals in need. It has been actively involved in initiatives such as “Karunadhara” and the Dwipshikha Foundation, both of which work for the welfare of cancer patients. The trust also extended financial support for the treatment of the renowned writer Sharmistha Pritam, and in the past, has supported the treatment of numerous cancer patients, offering relief and hope to their families.
In addition to its healthcare support, the trust organizes the distribution of food and prasad to old-age homes and residences for differently-abled individuals on every Shukla Navami Tithi of the month. It also collaborates with its sister organization, Abhighna (A Little Help, A Little Love, A Little Smile), to distribute usable old clothes and surplus food from various events to the needy, spreading joy among the underprivileged. Another noble act carried out by the Trust is the performance of last rites for unidentified or financially disadvantaged deceased individuals.
In a recent emergency general meeting, the members of the trust unanimously decided to donate Rs 1 lakh to the National Defence Fund. This decision was taken following a solemn prayer session held in memory of those killed by militants in Pahalgam and the martyrs of the India-Pakistan war.
The office bearers of the trust who played key roles in this initiative include Hridayananda Das, Mahidhar Haloi, Niranjan Kalita, Shashidhar Deka, Siddheshwar Baishya, and Bishwajit Nath. Their efforts reflect the Trust’s continued commitment to both humanitarian and patriotic causes.
