KOKRAJHAR: A two-day hands-on training on lemon culture and entrepreneurship development was held at Science College, Kokrajhar under the aegis of the Institutional Biotech Hub of the college for the UG and PG students and budding entrepreneurs of the area. The training programme was organized as a part of the ongoing DBT, Government of India-sponsored project of the Institutional Biotech Hub with the focus area ‘Scientific approaches to develop biopesticide for controlling citrus diseases and standardization of the products obtained from citrus lemon (L) Burm f.’ The training programme was organized with the aim to provide the students and entrepreneurs with hands-on knowledge on various aspects of lemon culture and incubate an entrepreneurship mindset in the participants.
A total of 25 UG and PG students, including entrepreneurs, participated in the programme. A host of highly qualified resource persons delivered invaluable sessions on different aspects in the said programme which started with the inaugural ceremony and felicitation of guests. The Vice-Principal of the college Dr S Chakraborty, Dr Mamoni Dhar, Dr B. Nath, Dr KK Brahma, Dr M Das and faculty members of the different departments of the college were present on the occasion.
On the first day of the programme, Dr R Hussain, MD of RA Sci-Tech Solutions, Guwahati, delivered the keynote speech titled ‘Entrepreneurship as a career,’ Dr Mohesh Gogoi, Principal Investigator/Coordinator, Institutional Biotech Hub, Science College, Kokrajhar, delivered a hands-on training session on ‘Lemon sapling preparation and plantation methods,’ PJ Sapruna, Co-Investigator and Assistant Professor, delivered a session on ‘Commercial uses of lemon,’ Dr Ghanashyam Nath, Research Scholar, delivered a session on ‘Some entrepreneurial thoughts: risks/challenges associated with lemon produce based business,’ and Hayen Machahary, Research Fellow in the IBH, SCK, presented a session on ‘ICT skills for online marketing.’
On the second day of the programme Dr Kishore Krishna Das, Assistant Professor of Commerce College, Kokrajhar, delivered a session on ‘Business tips for entrepreneurs.’ He highlighted the future prospects of flourishing a sustainable business based on the ‘Lemonn tea’ being developed at the IBH, Science College, Kokrajhar. After that, Miniswrang Borgoyary, Research Scholar in the IBH, SCK, presented a hands-on training on ‘Disease and pest management.’ The programme concluded with the valedictory session wherein the participants were handed certificates of participation. The valedictory session was graced by several dignitaries. The host team of the IBH, Science College, Kokrajhar, including Rajib Barman, Project Finance Officer of the college, Amit Tanti, and Dipak worked with a team spirit towards the success of the entire programme.
