GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam has apprehended two education officials in a bribery case involving a demand of Rs. 50,000. The accused, Padmeswar Bora, the Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO) and Mahim Debjit Saikia, Head Teacher of Rongpur Betani LP School, were arrested following a complaint lodged by a Senior Assistant in the BEEO's office in Narayanpur, Lakhimpur district.
According to the complaint, the bribe was allegedly demanded by Bora in order to not suspend the complainant, stating he was in collusion with Saikia. Refusing to do so, the complainant made a complaint to the Directorate, which led to an investigation.

The officials were arrested according to the evidence gathered during the sting operation. An FIR has been lodged at ACB Police Station under Section 61(2)(a) of the BNS and Section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, which was amended in 2018.
