Assam: Himashree Sharma brings gold medal to Gauripur

Himashree Sarma has made the district and the state proud by winning gold medal recently in the 38th International Youth Festival held in New Delhi.

DHUBRI: Himashree Sarma has made the district and the state proud by winning gold medal recently in the 38th International Youth Festival held in New Delhi.

Himashree, a student of Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, won the first prize in the classical (Kathak) dance competition.

The five-day festival, which started on March 3, had a  participation from 128 schools across the country.

Himashree who hails from Gauripur began her journey in dance at the tender age of three when her parents enrolled her in dance classes.

Since then, she has been performing in various events and has won several accolades.

Himashree’s first guru was Amrita Chakraborty. She was later trained under Debdatta Chaki, Marami Medhi, Meghranjani Medhi, Deep Jyoti Deepankar, and Chandrani Kalita Oja.

Earlier, she had clinched third position winning bronze medal in the 37th Inter-University National Youth Festival held at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
