Assam: Huge Cache of Explosives Seized In South Salmara Mankachar, Two Arrested

A huge cache of explosives was seized today under the jurisdiction of Mankachar Police Station. Authorities recovered 160 ammonium nitrate sticks, explosive wires, and 285 detonators.

GUWAHATI: In a significant operation, a huge cache of explosives was seized today under the jurisdiction of Mankachar Police Station in Assam. Authorities recovered 160 ammonium nitrate sticks, explosive wires, and 285 detonators. The discovery raises concerns about the potential use of these explosives for unlawful activities in the region.

A special investigation team (SIT), led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), has been assigned to probe the matter further. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the seized explosives, and legal action has been initiated against them.

Meanwhile in Mizoram, the security forces seized drugs worth Rs 10.80 crore and arrested four drug peddlers during recent operations. On Saturday night, a joint raid by Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics Department led to the recovery of 3.33 kg of methamphetamine tablets, valued at Rs 9.99 crore, on the Ngur-Bulfek road in Champhai district. Three smugglers were arrested for carrying the highly addictive "Yaba" or party tablets.

In another operation, heroin weighing 116.81 grams, worth Rs 81.76 lakh, was seized in Lawngtlai district. One drug peddler was apprehended while illegally transporting the drugs. All seized narcotics and the arrested individuals have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further legal action.

Earlier, a similar operation resulted in the seizure of heroin and methamphetamine worth over Rs 7.64 crore in Champhai district. Mizoram shares a 510 km-long unfenced border with Myanmar, particularly in the mountainous Champhai district, a hotspot for drug, arms, and contraband smuggling.
